Final - Flower

one

This piece I wanted to continue with photoshopping my sister into the image, but this image I wanted to create a more surreal scene instead of a staged one which is what my triptych is more like. This diptych also involves the use of my natural element which is water/earth. The subject of this is in relation to the softness of people and flowers.

two

This second image I simply photoshopped this flower into photo of a window where it was raining in the landscape. I wanted to show one photo in this body of work without a person, just to try and enhance the use of the flower in this diptych.

Final - House

one

This first image was created through photoshopping my sister into one of the rooms of a wooden dolls house. I scaled my sister to be a bit oversized due to the fact that I wanted her to feel a bit abnormal. This first image portrays the message of feeling out of place and trying to escape. This expression is mainly used through the position of the girl as she is looking out of the windows. I used the natural light when capturing this image as I wanted to show each of the shadows from the objects.

two

This second image was again created through photoshop and placing my sister to show as if she is picking up the towel in the bathroom of the dolls house. This image portrays a sense of wandering, and not always knowing what you are going to find. This is shown as she picks up the towel, which represents the sense of doing this that you may do but not knowing what the outcome will be.

three

This last image I wanted to represent the feeling of exploration and experience. This is created through again my sister being photoshopped as if she is almost skipping through the room. The subject matter of this image shows that even if you think what you do doesn't matter too much you should always do it. As children we always explore and experience different things but when we get older we tend to forget about this.

Tom Chambers

"saccharine perch" ~ Entropic Kingdom 2009

The image by Tom Chambers titled “Saccharine Perch” strongly expresses the wildlife habitat and what is has become through the use of photomontage. The image evokes of a desolate place which Chambers is trying to portray a sense of loneliness and emptiness. The image captures the sense of darkness which portrays quite a gloomy emotion. However the title of “Saccharine Perch” is literally expressed as the birds are on the perch which is the cake. This shows a mixed emotion as the titled evokes the image as being happy until the eyes are drawn to the entire picture where there is a sense of darkness. Chambers has used magical realism to create a sense of realism with some elements that seem false. However the contrasting elements seem to unify together to create the meaning of the image. Chambers appears to evoke a childhood memory as it shows of the girl with a cake, which shows innocence and vulnerability. I think Chambers wants the audience to view this image as quite ambiguous as there a very different emotions which the audience can evoke from it.

The image itself that is the focus point shows of a girl who’s head isn’t shown with a flock of birds on a cake, with other birds in the background. However the eyes are drawn directly to the cake as its the brightest image in the picture

The eyes are also drawn to the section of the cake which has been taken out and is on the ground with two other birds. However the birds appear to be photoshop which is what the audience is drawn to.

In the background the sense of the clouds show that there is an expected storm coming which the flock of the birds are flying away from the storm. However the scale of the birds is significantly bigger than the type of birds on the cakes. The birds in the background appear to be bats and it shows as if they have a sense that something bad is going to happen. However it is unknown what is going to happen, whether it is good or bad. The animals in this image appear to be quite vulnerable.

The main colours used is simply warm and cool, as the background of the image shows very warm and earthy colours with the contrast of cool colours which is the girls dress. Which combined together produces a very harmonious colour. Which harmonizing the two colours is created through technology which allows the two types of colour to unify. The image itself creates a symmetry as the image itself is pretty much symmetrical. This symmetrical image softens the image and creates a much quieter image despite the flock of birds everywhere.

"Too delicate for daylight" ~ Entropic Kingdom 2009

The image definitely shows quite a surreal image as she is been able to associate herself with the deers, which are usually quite timid creatures. However it appears the the deers are protecting her in a way. Which Chambers main focus for this body of work ‘Entropic Kingdom’ is the result of man’s disregard for the fragility of the environment and the responsibility for everyone to care for the earth.

Shutter Photography

Camera shutters is a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light sensitive photographic sensor to light or capture a permanent image of a scene.

I tried experimenting with one of the old cameras i had at home but it didn't turn out well because I don't have my SLR camera with me. But I found some great examples of where shutter photography has been used.

My focus

My focus: Lucid Dreaming

It took me a while to choose my focus because I wanted to experiment with my photography first and try every setting in light, dark, rain, water. But after I took a few photos, I couldn't find the right expression I wanted. So then I decided to look at my past photos and found some really pretty landscape and portraits when I was in the snow. I believe the snow represents lucid dreaming. Because when you are in the snow you always feel numb, like you are there but you can't really feel like yourself. Also the snow is physically protective, as you always feel safe and when you fall you will always get back up. So then I began to experiment with all of my snow landscapes, and start to photoshop other self portraits in (not only of me but of other portraits I took). I also chose Lucid Dreaming because my element is a mixture of earth and water and I think that snow shows a great capture, because essentially snow is water vapor frozen into ice crystals. Which falls of the ground and connecting with the earth. Which I also think of snow falling onto the trees and then looking like it was part of it in the first place.

Here are a few of my photoshopped pieces I worked with snow as the landscape and various photos I took of people. I probably won't use these examples but I wanted to grasp an understanding of trying to see how I can manipulate the photo and photoshop a variety of images in the snow.

I have been struggling when taking photos because I'm not sure how to try and capture the feel I want. I think its more of when it'll happen, it'll happen. So I think I need to try and try take photos less posed and more carefree, so then hopefully I can try to capture the feel I want for my focus 'Lucid Dreaming'. I want to try and capture the emotion of what snow feels like, and the atmosphere that is felt when you are in the snow.
